Tornados coast past East Texas Baptist in shutout win

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team continued their winning ways with a dominating 9-0 victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday at the River Place Country Club.

It the Tornados' fourth win in their first five matches to open the season.

Concordia Texas handled their business in the match's doubles play, sweeping all three matches.

Evan Pena Jr. and Adrian Munguia earned the first point of the day for CTX, cruising to an 8-2 win at line three, while at line two, Robin Van der Heijden and Riley O'Connor defeated the Tigers' Andrew Deutsch and Tyler Howard 8-3.

Esteban Arredondo and Michael Davis outlasted ETBU's John Herr and Joseph Salinas at line one, winning it 8-6 to wrap up the doubles matches.

In singles, the Tornados did not drop a single set.

Van der Heijden and Munguia took care of business at line one and two with 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3 wins, respectively.

Arredondo, meanwhile, earned a break point and grab a one-set lead at line three before finishing the match off with a 6-3 win in the second set.

Michael Davis won his first set 6-3 at line four before shutting down the Tigers' Howard in the following set with a 6-0 victory.

O'Connor and Pena Jr. finished off the day for CTX with wins at line five and six, respectively.

Next, the Tornados will head out to the Pacific Northwest for a four-match road trip, opening up against Lindfield College on Thursday in McMinnville, Ore.
