Tornados handle East Texas Baptist, win fourth match in a row

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team won two of the doubles matches to register their fourth win in a row, defeating East Texas Baptist 6-3 on Saturday at the River Place Country Club.

The Tornados opened the match with wins at line one and two in doubles play.

Isabella Wiik and reigning American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week Cassandra Landeros-Cabrera, handled the Tigers' Elisa Kendall and Kelsey Roberts at line one with an 8-3 victory.

Natalia Goodman and Rachel Sweitzer, meanwhile, dominated at line two, rolling to an 8-1 win and CTX took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

In singles, the Tornados fell at line one and five, but recovered, picking up straight set wins by Wiik and Claire Austin at lines two and three, respectively.

Goodman, at line four, and Sweitzer, at line six, each came up clutch for CTX with three-set thrilling wins.

Goodman went back and forth against ETBU's Cassidy Wilcoxson, but came out on top in the final set, winning it 6-4 to pick up a point.

Meanwhile, Sweitzer split the first two sets, before coasting to a 6-2 win in the decisive third set as the Tornados won their fourth match in a row after beginning the season with three straight losses.

Concordia Texas will have a long layoff before returning to the court on March 25 for a matchup against Pacific at 1 p.m. at the Austin Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
