RICHARDSON, Texas –
Joshua Bode and
Adrian Munguia pulled out an 8-5 victory at line two doubles, but it was all the Concordia Texas men's tennis team could muster, falling to Trinity 5-1 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament at the UTD Tennis Courts.
The Tornados enter the matchup making their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, facing the Tigers in a rematch from their March 19 bout.
Concordia Texas fell behind early as TU won the first two doubles matches of the day at line one and three, respectively. Bode and Munguia, though, teamed up at line two to defeat the Tigers' Jordan Pitts and Cameron Krimbill to cut the deficit in half.
In singles,
Evan Pena Jr. was unable to bounce back from a first set deficit, falling at line six.
Meanwhile,
Robin Van der Heijden fell short at line two in straight sets. The Tornados' historic season came to an end at line four as
Joeri Bregman dropped the opening set 7-5 and was unable to recover, falling in the following set 6-2.
Concordia Texas' run ends in the NCAA Tournament, but remains the most successful season in the program's history as the team won the school's first conference championship title back on May 1 and recorded the second-most wins in a single season with 13.
