AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas men and women's tennis teams upended the Howard Payne Yellowjackets in a pair of decisive victories. The men earned their second consecutive 9-0 sweep, and the women claimed a 8-1. Four members of the men's team secured at least one straight set victory in singles matches inside Leander High School on Friday.
In women's singles, Isabella Cepeda won 6-2, 6-2 on court one. Emily Hines (5-7, 3-6) battled in an exciting match, while Aria Morai (6-3, 6-3) reclaimed the lead for Concordia on court three. Rebecca McQueen shined in a three-set thriller to polish off singles action as Claire Austin and Natalia Goodman won by default.Â
In doubles, the teams of Natalia Goodman / Kayla Pena (8-6) and Trinity Klamecki / Austin (8-2) posted victories as Morai / McQueen also won by default.
The men dominated as Joshua Bode, Esteban Arredondo, Jorge Garcia, Evan Pena Jr., and Daniel Beckles did not drop more than three games in a single set. Andres Padilla also took care of business with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph on court two.
The men's doubles teams also excelled as the pairings of Adrian Munguia / Bode (8-3), Nico De La Pena / Arredondo (8-1), and Padilla / Pena Jr. (8-4) preserved the 9-0 sweep.
The Tornados will now head to San Antonio for their first road match of the season where they will face Trinity University at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12th.
