Men's Tennis Outlasts Hardin-Simmons in ASC Championship

The 5-4 victory is the Tornados' second in the last three years.

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's tennis team earned the 2023 ASC Men's Tennis Championship title after edging Hardin-Simmons, 5-4, on Saturday at UTD Tennis Complex. The Tornados won their second ASC Men's Tennis Championship overall and second in the past three seasons. Grad senior Joshua Bode was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Esteban Arredondo, Daniel Beckles and Adrian Munguia were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Concordia Texas (17-4) earns the automatic qualifier and advances to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Selection will be released on May 1 on NCAA.com. The 17 wins this season marks the most in program history, while their 11-match win streak earlier this season was the longest in the school's history.
 
The Tornados jumped out to a 2-1 advantage through doubles. Tournament Most Valuable Player Bode continued leading his team with an 8-5 win with Munguia on flight one doubles. Bode also won in ace singles 6-2, 6-2. Beckles/Andres Padilla would take flight three doubles, 8-5. Hardin-Simmons (12-7) took flight two on doubles with when Arredondo and Joeri Bregman were just outlasted by an 8-6 score.

The Cowboys turned the momentum with a 4-3 lead throughout the singles, winning flight three, flight six to even the score, and flight five to give HSU the lead.
 
Flights four and two saw the Tornados persevere with both being decided down to the wire in the third set. Beckles kept Concordia Texas alive and Munguia delivered the final win, as the Tornados won their rematch from last year's tournament.

Concordia Texas will now waiting for the NCAA Selection Show on May 1 to find out their next opponent in the first round.
