Joshua Bode and Kayla Pena Earn ASC West Tennis Players of the Week

Bode and Pena dominated in their matches vs the Lobos for the sweep.

DALLAS, Texas - Joshua Bode and Kayla Pena dominated in their matchups against the Lobos to secure the sweep over the weekend. Both players have been named the ASC West Tennis Players of the Year, the league's office announced on Tuesday.

Bode exceled on line one to help give Concordia Texas a pair of wins last weekend. In a conference game at McMurry, Bode & his doubles partner, Adrian Munguia, earned an 8-5 win. He then tallied a 6-1, 7-5 victory to help give CTX the 9-0 sweep over the Warhawks. Later in the same afternoon, Bode ran double duty with Munguia in the opening match of doubles against Sul Ross with an 8-0 triumph. He then helped the Tornados cap off their second straight sweep of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Pena was a force on line one with two wins in singles and two wins in doubles last Saturday. The junior helped give CTX a 7-2 conference victory over McMurry as her and teammate Isabella Cepeda surged to an 8-1 victory. She then wasted no time in singles action with a straight set win. Later in the afternoon against Sul Ross, Pena & Cepeda earned an 8-4 win in duos action. Pena then won her singles match 6-1, 6-3 to help sweep the Lobos.
