AUSTIN, Texas - Concordia University Texas is proud to recognize Sonya Chalil as our 2025–26 female representative for the SCAC Character & Community Award, honoring student-athletes who exemplify integrity, leadership, service, and a commitment to making a difference beyond competition.
A freshman Environmental Science major from Round Rock, Texas, Chalil has already made a name for herself both on campus and on the national stage. Before arriving at CTX, she became one of the most recognized female flag football athletes in the country, earning a feature as an NFL Player of the Year Spotlight nominee for her standout play, team-first mentality, and passion for growing opportunities for girls in sports.
But what truly sets Sonya apart is the character she shows when no cameras are around. Whether serving customers in her local community through jobs or volunteering her time to babysit, pet-sit, and help families in need, she approaches every role with humility, reliability, and genuine care for others. Her background in hospitality, customer service, and leadership has shaped her into someone teammates naturally trust and look up to.
On campus, Sonya brings steady positivity and a willingness to serve wherever needed. Professors and peers describe her as responsible, attentive, and deeply committed to personal growth: qualities reinforced by her veterinary medical certification, hands-on science work, and high standards for accountability. She embodies what it means to be dependable: whether she's restocking supplies, stepping in to help classmates, or simply creating a welcoming environment for those around her.
Sonya's story is one of resilience and quiet leadership. She represents the spirit of Concordia University Texas by showing that character isn't defined by titles; it's built through everyday actions, consistency, and choosing to uplift others. Her dedication to service, strong work ethic, and heart for her community make her an outstanding selection for the SCAC Character & Community Award.
Concordia University Texas proudly celebrates Sonya Chalil for the impact she has already made and the even greater one she's destined to create.
