Shamika Singleton, one of 13 newcomers on the women’s basketball team, led the Tornados to a 70-56 road victory over East Texas Baptist in their American Southwest Conference opener on Saturday, Nov. 27. A junior transfer from Lubbock Christian University, Singleton registered a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the contest, including 14 points and nine boards in the second frame, as the Tornados rallied to win after trailing for practically the entire first half. The forward also contributed four points and seven rebounds against St. Edward’s on Monday, Nov. 22.

 

Singleton, who averaged 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds during the week, is the daughter of Tommy Singleton and Cotina Jones. She has one brother, Tommy (19) and two younger sisters, De'Angela (18) and Tiera (8). Singleton is a computer science major and hopes to become a computer programmer upon graduation from Concordia.
