Shamika Singleton is Concordia's Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the third straight week and fourth time this winter after catapulting the women's basketball program into a tie for second place in the West Division and only half a game behind first-place Hardin-Simmons. Her stellar play resulted in three Tornado wins during a record-breaking week. Concordia, which started competing as an NCAA Division III program in 1995-96 and as a full ASC member in 1999-00, set program records for consecutive ASC wins (5) and consecutive wins at the NCAA Division III level (5).

Singleton, who averaged a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the three games, started the week with a seven-point, seven-rebound and four-steal effort in a 66-62 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Jan. 10. She then registered her fifth double-double of the season by adding 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting and a career-high 14 rebounds in a 79-73 road win over Texas Lutheran on Jan. 13. Singleton came through in crunch time by scoring 10 of Concordia's final 12 points while grabbing seven of her 14 rebounds during the last seven minutes of the game, allowing the Tornados to hold off a fierce attempted rally by the Bulldogs. The junior center ended the week by contributing 16 points and nine rebounds in just 23 minutes of action in a convincing 65-42 win over Schreiner on Jan. 15, giving the Tornados their first five-game winning streak since kicking off the 1994-95 season with six straight victories. In addition, Singleton's performances helped Concordia already match its conference wins total from last season (7).

Singleton, who ranks in the league’s top five for scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 pg), is the daughter of Tommy Singleton and Cotina Jones. She has one brother, Tommy (19) and two younger sisters, De'Angela (18) and Tiera (8). Singleton is a computer science major and hopes to become a computer programmer upon graduation from Concordia.
