Shamika Singleton is Concordia's Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the sixth time this winter after leading the women's basketball program to a 2-0 ledger with home victories over Sul Ross State, 96-48, and Howard Payne, 73-69, this past week. She averaged 20.0 points per game on 65.2 percent shooting in addition to adding 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest. Singleton helped the program move into a tie for second place in the West Division, while the Tornados are also in a position to make their first ASC Tournament appearance in six years.
Despite logging in only 23 minutes of action in the Tornados' convincing 96-48 victory over Sul Ross State, Singleton still managed to pour in 25 points by shooting 10-for-11 from the field and 5-for-7 from the line while also accumulating four steals and one blocked shot. The junior posted her ninth double-double of the season in a pivotal 73-69 win over Howard Payne with 15 points and a career-best 15 rebounds. She had seven of her 15 points in the last 3:31 of the game when Howard Payne was threatening to take the lead and nailed three free throws in the final minute to help ice the team’s ninth victory in its last 11 games.
Singleton, who ranks in the league's top five in scoring (17.8 ppg), rebounding (9.6 pg), field goal percentage (.528) and steals (2.3), is the daughter of Tommy Singleton and Cotina Jones. She has one brother, Tommy (19) and two younger sisters, De'Angela (18) and Tiera (8). Singleton is a computer science major and hopes to become a computer programmer upon graduation from Concordia.
