CTX volleyball drops American Southwest Conference opener

Brownwood, TX- The Concordia University Texas volleyball (4-5, 0-1 ASC) team dropped their first American Southwest Conference (ASC) match to Howard Payne University (7-3, 1-1 ASC) 3-2 on Tuesday night. After losing the first set 25-17, the Tornados jumped ahead taking two straight sets by score of 26-24 and 25-19. The Tornados could not keep pace with the Yellow Jackets in the 5th set, losing 15-9. 

The Tornados were led by freshman Kevyn Jackson (Baytown, TX) with 18 kills and senior Juli Applewhaite (Georgetown, TX) with 26 assists. Senior Defensive Specialist Sara Keithley (Colorado Springs, Co) added 31 digs for Concordia. 

As a team the Tornados finished with a .068 attacking percentage while the Yellow Jackets finished with a .135. Defensively Concordia rallied with 80 digs along with five block assists, for total team blocks of 2.5 for the night. 

The Tornados will return to action on September 19, 2008 as they are on the road again traveling to Abilene, TX for another ASC opponent Hardin Simmons University. The match is set for 7:00 pm.
