AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore outside hitter #Kevyn Jackson# posted 11 kills and hit at a .320 clip while leading the Concordia University Texas volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Sul Ross State University Monday evening at Concordia Fieldhouse. The Tornados (5-11, 4-6 ASC) won the match by scores of 25-23, 32-30, 25-13.
Sophomore middle blocker #Kalynn White# also registered double-digit kills for the Tornados after racking up 10 in the three-set win. White also led CTX with three total blocks.
Freshman setter #Bianca Martinez#
(pictured, right) guided the Tornados to a .191 hitting percentage while amassing a game-high 29 assists.
Senior outside hitter #Carrie Fisk# led the defensive charge for Concordia Texas by recording 12 digs. Fisk also tallied seven kills.
CTX and SRSU (1-16, 0-10 ASC) battled back and forth in the first set of the match. Concordia Texas pushed out to a five-point lead (12-7) mid-way through the set, however, the Lady Lobos scored five consecutive points to tie the set (12-12).
The Tornados would use the strength of a 3-0 run to claim a 23-20 lead, forcing the Lady Lobos to call a timeout. Following the timeout, CTX would win five of the next eight points to claim the first set, 25-23.
The second set saw CTX jump out to a large 18-9 lead before SRSU began to mount a comeback. The Lady Lobos would go on a 15-6 run and claim a 25-24 lead. The two teams would then tie the score six more times in the set before the Tornados finally grabbed the advantage and went up 2-0 in the match with a 32-30 set two win.
In the fourth set, the Tornados would again jump out to a large lead, but this time were able to take advantage of the early 9-1 advantage. SRSU would get as close as 16-10 in the set, but the Tornados held off any chance of a comeback and put the Lady Lobos away with a 25-13 win.
Concordia Texas will head to Abilene for a pivotal ASC matchup with McMurry University on Fri., Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.
