ALPINE, Texas --- The Concordia Texas volleyball team handed Sul Ross State a three-game defeat Saturday night winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 to register its fourth American Southwest Conference win.
The victory brings CTX's record to (6-11, 4-7 ASC) while SRSU falls to (1-17, 0-9 ASC).
The Tornados broke a four match losing streak Saturday at the Gallego Center thanks in part to a revived offensive attack. CTX had hit a combined -.026 over its last two matches in the week, but was able to hit at a .212 clip against Sul Ross, led by eleven kills from junior
Amanda Affolter.
Concordia registered 40 kills on 104 swings while Sul Ross generated only 17 kills on 70 swings. The Tornados collected 11 service aces on the evening with libero
Kevyn Jackson racking up four.
Bianca Martinez and
Sammy Ladewig each dished out 12 assists in the match.
Defensively for the Tornados Jackson came up with nine digs to tie for a match-high while
Katherine Bianco recorded seven digs in her first extended appearance of the year.
Sul Ross State was led by Brooke Bankston who collected seven kills and seven digs while teammate Kathy Peralez added nine digs as well.
Concordia will host the Second ASC Crossover Challenge this upcoming weekend on the 15th and 16th. The Tornados will take on Mississippi on Friday at 4:30 p.m. followed by UT-Tyler at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, and finishing with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 2:30 p.m.
