AUSTIN, Texas --- The seniors of the Concordia University Texas volleyball were able to go out in style at Senior Day Saturday, as the Tornados swept Sul Ross State University by scores of 25-9, 25-12, 25-16. CTX improves its record to (10-13, 8-9 ASC) while SRSU falls to (1-22, 0-14 ASC).
19 Tornados saw action Saturday as Concordia rolled to an easy three game victory. Kalynn White and Jessie Elaban led all players with eight kills. Overall the Tornados hit .275 for the match, collecting 38 kills on only 80 swings.
Seniors Jessie Elaban and Katherine Bianco were honored in a ceremony before the game as both individuals received framed jerseys from the team. With the win Concordia improves to 5-5 at home for the year, with its biggest win being a three-game sweep over Schreiner on September 28th.
Freshman Katie McKinney slammed home a career-best five kills in the match and Kevyn Jackson chipped in with five. Katherine Bianco was rewarded with her first start of the year and collected 14 kills and three assists.
The Lady Lobos were limited to a -.098 hitting percentage in the match with 14 kills on 82 swings. Leading the team offensively was Brooke Bankston with eight kills.
Concordia, who currently stands at fifth in the ASC West Division, has officially been eliminated from post-season contention. The team will travel to Kerrville on Tuesday to take on Schreiner University in a match starting at 6:00 p.m. CTX swept Schreiner (10-15, 8-7) in its only previous meeting of the year.
