TLU Sweeps CTX for Second Straight Match

SEGUIN, Texas --- The Concordia Texas volleyball team was unable to slow down Jessica Stetler and the Texas Lutheran offense as the Tornados were swept by TLU 13-25, 23-25, 21-25 Tuesday night at Susan Duke Court.

CTX dropped to 5-9 overall and 3-6 in the American Southwest Conference while TLU improved to 7-8 overall and 6-3 in the ASC.

TLU amassed a .228 hitting percentage in the match as Jessica Stetler delivered 18 kills while hitting at a .405 clip. CTX was only able to generate a -.010 hitting percentage led by Kalynn White and Amanda Affolter, who both collected four kills apiece.

Concordia fell behind 13-4 in game one before an 8-4 CTX run made the score 17-12 TLU. The Tornados could not put up any kind of a wall against Texas Lutheran's hitters as the Bulldogs produced 13 kills and no errors in the game, delivering a .542 hitting percentage and a 25-13 win.

In game two TLU again jumped out to a convincing 17-11 lead. Back-to-back service aces from Concordia's Kevyn Jackson brought the deficit to one, but the Bulldogs were able to regroup after a time-out and take a 23-21 lead. After a Kevyn Jackson kill Stetler and company pounded out two kills down the stretch to edge past Concordia in game two 25-23.

The Tornados were able to play its best volleyball of the night in game three as both teams traded points early on. TLU was able to edge out to a 13-11 lead, but two straight kills from outside hitter Jessie Elaban tied the game at 19. Moments later the Bulldog's Jessica Stetler recorded her 18th kill of the night to give TLU a 25-21 victory.

Concordia had 20 kills along with 21 errors on 105 attempts while Texas Lutheran slugged on 45 kills along with 16 errors on 127 attempts. Setter Manda Martin dished out 35 assists for TLU on the night while Jessica Stetler collected 18 kills, 13 digs and hit at a .405 clip.

Jessie Mundfrom recorded 18 digs on the night for the Tornados while freshman Sammy Ladewig dished out 10 assists and made 10 digs on the night.

CTX will be back home this Friday as Concordia will host Hardin-Simmons University in a match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
