ABILENE, Texas --- The Concordia University Texas volleyball team was unable to tarnish Hardin-Simmons 26 home match winning streak Friday as the Tornados fell in four sets, 25-20, 13-25, 22-25, 12-25 in American Southwest Conference action.
CTX brings its record to 2-4, 0-1 ASC while Hardin-Simmons improves to 6-3, 2-0 ASC with the win.
The Tornados were looking to play the role of spoiler Friday evening as Concordia was sharp early, cruising to a 25-20 win in set one. It was all Hardin-Simmons in set two however, as the Cowgirls came out to a 23-5 advantage before winning 25-13 behind a strong serving run from Erin Davis.
Set three saw the Tornados once again control the play early by jumping out to a 14-9 advantage, only to see Hardin-Simmons rattle off seven straight points and win 25-22. In the final game HSU rolled to a 25-22 win to take the match in four sets.
Hardin-Simmons has not lost a home match since the 2007 season (27 games).
Leading the way for the Tornados was
Kevyn Jackson as the junior posted eight kills and 14 digs. ASC West Defensive Player of the Week
Jessie Mundfrom had another solid outing as the youngster collected 27 digs in the match.
Freshman
Alison Pringle was a bring spot for Concordia as she came off the bench to record 6 kills on only 12 attacks.
HSU's Madison Reyes, the current ASC conference leader in kills per game, posted an impressive 21 kills hitting .450 for the match.
Concordia will travel across town Saturday as they take on McMurry University. Live stats will be available on-line and game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
