Tornados Make Quick Work of UMHB

Belton, Texas -- The Concordia University Texas volleyball team's week got off to a terrific start as the Tornados swept the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor by the scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-22 Tuesday night in Belton.

The win snaps UMHB's two-match winning streak and drops their record to 2-5 on the season. The Tornados bring their record to 2-3 with the victory.

A strong defensive effort allowed the Tornados to pull away late as freshman libero Jessie Mundfrom anchored the defense recording 21 digs. Kalynn White once again led the way offensively racking up a match-high 11 kills while Bianca Martinez dished out 18 assists. CTX received a spark from Kevyn Jackson as she added 11 digs and 5 service aces kills in her first appearance of the season.

Tina Miller and Kimberly Smidovec led the Cru with six kills apiece and both players had three block assists. Erin Maenius recorded a team-high 21 digs while Anissa Garcia had a team-best 11 assists.

CTX will open up at home in a match with the University of St. Thomas this Friday at 6:00 p.m. The Tornados will then begin their American Southwest Conference schedule as they travel to Abilene to face Hardin-Simmons and McMurry University on September 17th and 18th.
