Bianca Martinez posted a pair of double-doubles as the Concordia University Texas volleyball team split matches with Centenary and East Texas Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the American Southwest Conference Dig Pink Challenge on the campus of McMurry University. The Tornados fell to Centenary in five sets by scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-15, 23-25 and 15-7 before defeating East Texas Baptist in four sets by scores of 25-14, 13-25, 25-19 and 25-18.
In the opening match against Centenary, Martinez was one of three Tornados to post a double-double with 40 assists and 17 digs.
Kalynn White finished with 12 kills and 21 digs, while
Amanda Affolter had 11 kills and 10 digs.
Shelbi Chipman and
Alison Pringle added 14 and 11 kills, respectively, and
Kevyn Jackson had 26 digs.
Centenary (6-7) was led by Shelby Singleton, who hit at a .565 clip by accumulating 14 kills and only one error on 23 attempts to go along with six blocks. Jaclyn Lopez (16 kills, 16 digs) and Caitlin Neese (35 assists, 15 digs) had double-double performances.
Martinez paced the Tornados in the victory over East Texas Baptist by racking up 24 assists and 10 digs. Pringle, who posted a .474 hitting percentage, finished just shy of a double-double with 10 kills and nine blocks. Chipman added nine kills and 10 digs, while Jackson and Samantha Ladewig had 20 digs and 18 assists, respectively.
East Texas Baptist (4-12, ASC 1-7) got strong contributions from Tara Wait, Melanie Moyer and Breann Whitaker. Wait had 28 assists and nine digs, while Moyer recorded 11 kills and nine digs. Whitaker added 18 digs and seven assists.
Concordia (8-7, ASC 4-4) continues ASC play when it visits Howard Payne on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
