Volleyball Falls in Four to McMurry

Shelbi Chipman was one of two Tornados to post a double-double, but the Concordia University Texas volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to McMurry on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks rallied to win by set scores of 22-25, 28-26, 26-24 and 25-21 against a Tornado squad that was playing its third road match in as many days.

Concordia (12-12, ASC 8-8), which never trailed in the first set and built up a comfortable lead in the second before its opponent came back, got a 15-kill and 15-dig effort from Chipman. Martinez also had a double-double performance with 20 assists and 14 digs, while Kevyn Jackson posted a team-leading 30 digs. Emma Clifford was strong up front with eight kills and eight blocks. Other contributers included Kalynn White (9 kills, 21 digs) and Samantha Ladewig (14 assists, 9 digs).

Jasmine Qualls and Demi Holladay each registered a double-double of the assist-dig variety to help McMurry (23-2, ASC 13-2) match its single-season school record for victories. Qualls had 24 assists and 21 digs, while Holladay finished with 23 assists and 12 digs. M.J. Vickers led three War Hawks with double-digit kills by posting 14 kills and 16 digs, and Bailey Marcum contributed 12 kills and 19 digs to the team's balanced attack.

Concordia wraps up ASC action with playoff hopes on the line when it hosts Schreiner on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. Nearly 50 Special Olympics athletes and their families from Austin Parks and Recreation as well as the Austin State Supported Living Center are slated to be in attendance as part of the Athletes for Athletes program started by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
