Kalynn White hit at a .350 clip and recorded nine kills and nine digs in leading the Concordia University Texas volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Howard Payne (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Brownwood Coliseum. With the victory, the Tornados remain in third place in the West Division and in contention for their first playoff berth since 2000 at the midway point of their conference schedule.
In addition to White, who also added three blocks, Concordia also got strong contributions from
Bianca Martinez,
Kevyn Jackson and
Alison Pringle. Martinez finished with 23 assists and two service aces, while Jackson had 15 digs. Pringle, who posted a .333 hitting percentage, added five kills and three blocks.
Howard Payne (7-10, ASC 3-5) was paced by Jessica Guerra, Tamika Heline and Kristin Hammond. Guerra finished with 25 assists and six digs, while Heline registered 10 kills and seven digs. Hammond, who was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week, added a team-leading 13 digs.
Concordia (9-7, ASC 5-4) will compete at the second ASC Dig Pink Crossover Challenge at Texas-Tyler this weekend. The Tornados open up the tournament against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
