Bianca Martinez tallied 20 assists and five digs, but the Concordia University Texas volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Texas-Dallas on Friday, Oct. 6 as part of the first day of the Dig Pink Crossover Challenge being held at the UTD Activity Center. Set scores were 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14.
Concordia (9-12, ASC 4-6) scored the first two points and three of the first four in the opening frame, but the Comets recovered and took over the rest of the way. A kill by Dana Hilzendager gave the hosts a 4-3 advantage and the lead for good before a kill by Abbie Barth ended it in the Comets' favor. The host school stayed in control for the remainder of the match en route to defeating the Tornados in straight sets.
In addition to Martinez, the Tornados were also led by
Stacy Manship and
Alison Pringle. Each player tallied seven kills, while Manship also had eight digs.
Emma Clifford finished with four kills and two blocks.
Texas-Dallas (15-3, ASC 9-1) was paced by Halea Williams' double-double performance of 10 kills and 10 blocks. Christina Murphy also had 10 kills, while Kayla Jordan and Hilzendager posted 33 assists and 10 digs, respectively.
Concordia will face LeTourneau and East Texas Baptist on the second day of the Dig Pink Crossover Challenge tomorrow.
