BOX SCORE
Seguin, Texas –
Amanda Affolter tallied a game-high 11 kills, but the Concordia University Texas volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Texas Lutheran on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Susan Duke Court. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17.
After Texas Lutheran (13-10, ASC 10-3) scored the match's first two points, Concordia came back and rattled off four straight to take an early 6-3 lead. The teams would stay within three points of each other for most of the set until a Tornado ballhandling error made it 19-15 in favor of the hosts, forcing the visitors to call a timeout. Concordia never got closer than four the rest of the way before settling for the six-point loss in the set.
The second frame featured eight ties at the beginning before the Bulldogs got three straight points and went ahead by a 12-9 score on a Tornado attacking error. Texas Lutheran, which did not commit an error in the set, used that to momentum to extend its lead to as many as nine at 20-11 and 21-12 to seize control the rest of the way.
Concordia (10-14, ASC 5-8) earned the first two points of the opening set, which included a kill by Affolter off a feed from
Alissa Johnson, but the hosts responded with six straight points to take a lead it would never relinquish. Haley Lasseter broke an 8-8 deadlock with a kill to put the Bulldogs ahead for good, and a kill by Manda Martin on match point gave the hosts their second straight victory and fifth in the last six matches.
In addition to Affolter, the Tornados also got solid performances from
Bianca Martinez and Johnson. Martinez posted 24 assists and eight digs, while Johnson had 18 digs.
The Bulldogs were led by Chelsea Slaughter, who registered 10 kills while finishing with a .450 hitting percentage. Megan Lee contributed 18 digs, and Martin finished with 36 helpers.
Concordia will host Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
