Alissa Johnson recorded a combined 29 digs, but the Concordia University Texas volleyball team dropped both of its matches to sixth-ranked California Lutheran and Trinity on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Trinity National Invitational. The Tornados lost to California Lutheran in straight sets before falling short to the host Tigers by a 3-1 decision.
California Lutheran began the day with a three-set victory over Concordia by set scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-14 before Trinity defeated the Tornados by scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-20.
In addition to Johnson, Concordia also got strong contributions from
Bianca Martinez,
Zoë Allen and
Stacy Manship against California Lutheran. Martinez had 10 assists and five digs, while Allen registered a team-high four kills to go along with one dig. Manship had three kills and six digs.
California Lutheran used a balanced attack and was led by Rachel Smith's seven kills and 13 digs. Jena Chavez added a game-high 27 assists, and Kylie Logan had five kills and 12 digs.
Amanda Affolter paced the Tornados in the losing effort against Trinity. She had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Shelbi Chipman had 13 kills on .323 hitting and six digs, while Martinez added 35 assists and eight digs to go along with two aces. Johnson ended the match with 19 digs.
Concordia (5-7) will resume conference play when it visits Howard Payne on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
