BOX SCORE
Austin, Texas –
Alison Pringle had nine kills and eight blocks while hitting at a .444 clip in leading the Concordia University Texas volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Sul Ross State on Friday, Sept. 28 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados rallied to win by set scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-20.
The first set, which featured eight ties, was controlled by Sul Ross State. A kill by Erin Lynn broke an 8-7 tie and gave the Lobos the lead for the rest of the set. The Tornados were able to tie the match at 19s on an
Amanda Affolter kill, but a CTX ballhandling error followed by a Kristen Valle ace pushed the Lobos ahead for good until a Lauren Aldana ace sealed the three-point win for the visitors.
Concordia scored the first three points of the second set as the momentum shifted courtesy of a Pringle kill and two attacking errors by the Lobos. After Sul Ross State responded with a 10-5 run, the Tornados battled back and scored 12 of the next 15 to go ahead by a 20-13 score.
Shelbi Chipman finished the stretch with two straight service aces, as the Tornados went on to win by a 25-19 decision and tie the score at one set apiece.
Concordia came out of the locker room for the third set on fire and led from wire to wire. A service ace by Pringle followed by two kills from Clifford and
Stacy Manship gave the hosts an early 9-2 cushion. The lead grew to as many as nine on multiple occasions until Chipman and Pringle combined for a block to give the hosts the 25-16 set victory. The Tornados then fought off a furious rally by the Lobos in the fourth set to claim their third conference win of the year.
In addition to Pringle, the Tornados also got strong outings from Affolter, Manship and Chipman. Affolter and Manship had 10 kills apiece, while Chipman finished with seven kills and nine digs to go along with three blocks.
