Stacy Manship tallied seven kills and hit at a .375 clip, but the Concordia University Texas volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to first-place Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Mabee Complex. The Cowgirls won by set scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-15.

Hardin-Simmons (14-3, ASC 8-0) never trailed in the opening set and stayed ahead after a kill by Morgan Watts broke a 4-4 tie. A Madison Reyes service ace made it 15-5, allowing the Cowgirls to take control the rest of the way.

Concordia (8-11, ASC 3-5) had a slim 2-1 advantage in the second set, but Hardin-Simmons scored eight unanswered to seize control. Ellen Dees had three service aces during the stretch to fuel the run. The Tornados, however, fought back and came within two at 14-12 with Samantha Ladewig quarterbacking the offense. Despite a valiant effort to come back, Concordia could not overcome the early deficit and took the six-point loss on a combined block by Watts and Dees.

Fueled by the performance of Reyes, the hosts scored the first two points of the second set and led throughout with the exception of a 4-4 tie. The Cowgirls, however, broke loose and extended the lead to 10 at 21-11 thanks to five consecutive kills by Reyes to eventually take the set by a 10-point margin as well as the match.

In addition to Manship, Concordia also got strong efforts from Bianca Martinez, Alissa Johnson and Ladewig. Martinez had 10 assists and three digs, while Johnson posted 10 digs. Ladewig finished with 12 assists and five digs.

Reyes just fell shy of a double-double to pace Hardin-Simmons. She registered 12 kills and nine digs. Watts recorded six kills and three blocks, while Molli Owen and Addison Zaya ended with 17 assists and digs, respectively.
