Shelbi Chipman posted three double-doubles as the Concordia University Texas volleyball team won three of its four matches at the Austin College Tournament on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. With the three victories, the Tornados are off to their best start through seven games since 2004.

Concordia started the tournament on a high note Friday afternoon by defeating Rhodes in four sets by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-18 before suffering their only loss later in the day to the host school in straight sets. The 'Roos won by set scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-16. On Saturday, the Tornados rallied from behind twice to post five-set victories over St. Thomas and Dallas. Scores against St. Thomas were 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-12 and 15-11, while the Tornados earned a 3-2 win over the Knights by set scores of 18-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-21 and 15-6.

Chipman had 11 kills and hit at a .429 clip while adding seven digs to pace the Tornados against Rhodes. Alison Pringle added nine kills and two blocks. Bianca Martinez and Cassie Dominguez finished with 30 assists and 21 digs, respectively.

Stacy Manship and Chipman contributed 10 kills apiece in the loss to Austin College, while Chipman added 10 digs for her first of three double-double performances. Martinez and Dominguez finished with 24 assists and 16 digs, respectively.

Martinez and Chipman both had double-double efforts in the win over St. Thomas. Martinez finished with 43 assists and 18 digs, while Chipman posted 13 kills and 14 digs. Amanda Affolter also had a strong performance with nine kills and 16 digs. Alissa Johnson registered 34 digs.

Three Tornados recorded a double-double in the five-set win over Dallas to close out the tournament. Manship posted 12 kills ,14 digs and had a .346 percentage to pace Concordia in the match. Martinez added 47 assists and 14 digs, while Chipman recorded 10 kills and 14 digs. Emma Clifford contributed six blocks, including four that were solo, to go along with six kills, and Johnson had 36 digs.

Concordia (5-2) will host Texas Lutheran for its American Southwest Conference opener on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
