AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team will return home on Saturday to host a pair of American Southwest Conference (ASC) opponents at Concordia Fieldhouse. The Tornados will play I-35 rival Mary Hardin-Baylor at 11 a.m. and Sul Ross State at 3 p.m. to wrap up the day.
Concordia Texas (6-13, 3-6 ASC) will hold its annual "Dig Pink" game in the first match, in which the team will raise money for the Sideout Foundation and breast cancer awareness. T-shirts will be sold throughout the day for $10 each.
The Tornados are coming off a near upset of No. 21 Trinity on Wednesday. Concordia dropped the first two sets of the match, but rallied to win the next two to force the contest to go the distance. However, the Tigers spoiled the upset bid with a 14-4 run in the final panel to pull away.
Sophomore
Katie Baker has improved her performance over the past week and leads the Tornados with 2.41 points and 2.11 kills per set. Senior
Emma Clifford leads the the club with 0.71 blocks per frame and a .226 hitting percentage, while her classmate,
Sam Ladewig, ranks sixth in the conference with 5.97 assists per panel.
The Cru (19-3, 8-1 ASC) saw their nine-match winning streak come to an end last Saturday with a five-set loss to East Texas Baptist. However, Mary Hardin-Baylor is still tied atop the league standings with Texas-Dallas. The Cru have held their opponents to a league-low .128 hitting percentage and lead the ASC with 2.67 blocks per frame. UMHB's defensive prowess is led by Cheyenne Dowdey, who averages a league-best 1.34 blocks per panel.
The Lady Lobos (0-19, 0-9 ASC) are still in search of their first win of the campaign. Sul Ross State has been swept in 15 of its 19 contests this fall and is hitting a league-low .002. The Lady Lobos rank sixth in the conference with 15.53 digs per panel.
