AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team split a pair of American Southwest Conference (ASC) matches on Saturday. The Tornados were swept by Mary Hardin-Baylor and bounced back with a four-set victory against Sul Ross State.
Katie Baker paced the offensive attack wtih one double-double and a total of 23 kills.
Concordia Texas (7-14, 4-7 ASC) will conclude its home slate on Tuesday, Oct. 15, when the squad hosts Huston-Tillotson at Concordia Fieldhouse. Prior to the match, which begins at 7 p.m., the Tornados will honor its four seniors – Emma Clifford, Alissa Johnson, Sam Ladewig and Alison Pringle.
MATCH ONE
Mary Hardin-Baylor (20-3, 9-1 ASC) topped Concordia by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 26-24. The Tornados hit only .078, while the Cru forced 26 attack errors.
Baker registered a double-double with 13 winners and 10 digs, while Sam Ladewig handed out 21 assists. Cassie Dominguez added 11 stops.
Meanwhile, Shelby Prather netted a double-double for UMHB with 13 digs and 11 helpers.
Concordia nearly pushed the contest to a fourth frame, but the Cru fought off a set point to win the final three tallies of the third panel and close out the match.
MATCH TWO
The Tornados got back on the winning track in the nightcap with a 25-11, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16 win over Sul Ross State (0-21, 0-11 ASC).
Concordia hit at a .217 clip in the contest and forced the Lady Lobos to commit 22 attack errors.
Emma Clifford led a trio of Tornados into double-digit kills with a match-high 16 winners. Baker and Skye Truss each netted 10 winners.
Ladewig ran point for the CTX offense and dished out 43 assists, while Dominguez racked up 16 digs. Zöe Allen and Alissa Johnson each chipped in with 11 and 10 stops, respectively.
Clarissa Hernandez led Sul Ross State with 17 helpers.
