Volleyball to take on four American Southwest Conference opponents this weekend

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team will continue its league schedule this weekend when it plays a quartet of American Southwest Conference (ASC) matches in Marshall, Texas.

The Tornados are scheduled to play Mississippi College at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by LeTourneau four hours later. CTX also will play East Texas Baptist at 10 a.m. and Texas-Tyler at 12 p.m. the following day.

Concordia Texas (4-10, 1-4 ASC) is looking to snap a four-match losing streak. The Tornados lost all three of its matches in last weekend's pod at Alpine, Texas, including two that went five sets.

Senior Sam Ladewig ranks seventh in the conference with 5.25 assists per set, while her classmate Alissa Johnson leads the squad in points (2.34) per frame. Sophomore Katie Baker is averaging a team-best 1.92 kills per panel, while senior Emma Clifford is hitting at a team-high .235 clip.

The Lady Choctaws (4-10, 1-5 ASC) have won back-to-back matches, including a sweep of Tougaloo on Tuesday. Mississippi College's only ASC victory was a five-set win over LeTourneau last Saturday. Holly Tupper leads the league with 5.24 digs per set, while Rachel Janssen ranks seventh in the circuit with 2.66 kills per frame.

The YellowJackets (5-13, 0-6 ASC) have lost eight consecutive contests, including six against ASC opponents. LeTourneau's last win came against Jarvis Christian (3-0) on Sept. 14. Dolores Kroese leads the team with 2.27 kills per panel, while Sarah Krippner ranks fifth in the league with 5.83 assists per set.

The Tigers (15-5, 4-2 ASC) have won 13 of their last 15 matches, with sweeps in each of the last four. East Texas Baptist sits in second in the league in hitting percentage (.259) and kills (12.46) and blocks (2.03) per set. Kolby Sharp leads the conference with a .415 hitting percentage and leads the squad with 2.66 winners per panel.

The Patriots (13-5, 3-3 ASC) enter the weekend after winning three of their last four matches. However, Texas-Tyler was swept by East Texas Baptist in its last outing. The Patriots lead the ASC in hitting percentage (.274) and kills (13.17) and assists (11.9) per set. Breanna Brummett is the league leader with 4.14 winners per frame, while Rebecca Floyd sits atop the league statistics at 10.54 helpers per panel.

Live stats will be provided for all of Concordia's matches, while the Tornados' contest with the Tigers also will be shown with live video.
