AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team will close out the regular season this weekend when it plays a pair of matches at the Southwestern Tournament in Georgetown. The Tornados will face Austin College at 3 p.m. on Friday and host Southwestern at 3 p.m. the following day.
Concordia Texas (11-18) has won back-to-back matches and clinched a spot in the upcoming American Southwest Conference Tournament for the first time in 13 years. CTX knocked off LeTourneau and Mississippi College last Saturday to secure the postseason berth.
Sophomore Katie Baker leads the Tornados with 2.75 points and 2.36 kills per set, while senior Emma Clifford averages 2.07 winners per frame and owns a team-best .263 hitting percentage. Junior Cassie Dominguez leads the back row with 3.03 digs per panel.
The Kangaroos (18-17) have lost two of their last three matches, including a three-set setback to Southwestern on Sunday. Austin College also swept Concordia in the only meeting this season on Sept. 7, in Sherman.
Meanwhile, the Pirates (22-9) have won nine of their last 10, including three in a row, and received votes in the latest AVCA top-25 poll. All three of Southwestern's lastest victories have been sweeps.
