MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team dropped a pair of American Southwest Conference (ASC) matches on Saturday. The Tornados were swept by East Texas Baptist and lost in five sets to Texas-Tyler.
Katie Baker paced the offensive attack wtih a pair of double-doubles, which included a total of 27 kills and 26 digs.
Concordia Texas (6-12, 3-6 ASC) will wrap up its eight-match road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when the squad travels to No. 23 Trinity. The non-conference tilt is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
MATCH ONE
East Texas Baptist (17-5, 6-2 ASC) swept the Tornados by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-22.
Baker racked up her sixth double-double with 11 digs and 10 kills to lead Concordia. Sam Ladewig handed out 21 assists, while Cassie Dominguez collected a match-high 12 stops.
Meanwhile, Mallory Sanders hit .577 with 15 kills in 26 errorless swings for the Lady Tigers.
MATCH TWO
Texas-Tyler (15-6, 5-4 ASC) overcame an early one-frame deficit to outlast the Tornados in five panels. The Patriots won the match by scores of 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18 and 15-9.
Baker and Ladewig both netted double-doubles for CTX in the loss. Ladewig dished out 44 assists and tallied 15 digs, while Baker posted a team-high 17 winners and collected 15 stops. Dominguez also chipped in on the defensive end with 25 digs and Brooke Stitt posted 10 kills.
Texas-Tyler received 18 kills apiece by Breanna Brummett and Kayte Stein, while Rebecca Floyd racked up a double-double of 52 assists and 14 digs.
