AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team will take a brief break from league action to play a non-conference match at No. 21 Trinity on Wednesday. First serve is slated to take place at 6 p.m. at Sams Gymnasium.
The Tornados (6-12) split four American Southwest Conference contests last weekend in Marshall, Texas. Concordia Texas topped both LeTourneau and Mississippi College last Friday, but suffered a pair of setbacks to East Texas Baptist and Texas-Tyler the following day.
Sophomore
Katie Baker paced the Tornados' offensive attack last weekend. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native averaged 3.44 points and 2.88 kills per frame and racked up three double-doubles.
Baker leads CTX overall with an average of 2.42 points and 2.15 kills per panel, while senior
Sam Ladewig ranks fifth in the conference with 6.10 assists per set. Senior
Emma Clifford owns a team-high 51 total blocks (0.76/frame) and is hitting a team-best .233.
The Tigers (18-3) have won 13 of their last 14 matches, including the last nine. Trinity, which moved up two spots in Tuesday's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, netted a four-set victory over cross-town foe Our Lady of the Lake last Thursday.
Maggie Emodi is leading the Tigers with an average of 2.91 winners per panel, while Maryn Swierc (5.26 assists per set) and Erika Edrington (4.77) have guided the squad to a .220 hitting percentage.
Meanwhile, Erin Cusenbary ranks 14th in the nation with 1.28 blocks per frame.
Wednesday's match marks the 20th meeting between the two teams with Trinity holding a 12-7 advantage in the all-time series. The Tigers, who have won 11 consecutive meetings in the series, registered a pair of wins against the Tornados a year ago. Trinity claimed a four-set victory on Sept. 15, 2012, and swept CTX just over a month later. Concordia's last win in the series was a 3-0 victory on Sept. 25, 1985, in Austin.
