GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team closed out the regular season with a five-set loss to Southwestern on Saturday at the Robertson Center. The Pirates won the match by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-12, 18-25, 15-10.
The Tornados (12-19) were unable to complete the come-from-behind victory despite a career day from sophomore Katie Baker. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native logged her team-leading 12th double-double which included a career-high 19 kills. Baker, who hit .293 on 41 swings, also collected 14 digs.
Senior Alissa Johnson also posted a double-double of 17 stops and 13 winners.
Olivia Drummond led four Southwestern (24-9) players into double digits with 16 kills, while Macey Pool (22 digs/14 kills) and Nikki Welch (54 assists/14 digs) both netted double-doubles.
Concordia Texas will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 7, when it opens play in the American Southwest Conference Tournament. The Tornados, which will be making their first postseason appearance since 2000, earned the No. 6 seed in the double-elimination tournament and will face third-seeded East Texas Baptist at 12 p.m. in the opening round.
