AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team continue its campaign on Saturday when it travels to Seguin to play a pair of non-league matches against former American Southwest Conference opponents. The Tornados will match up with Texas Lutheran at 5 p.m. before squaring off with Schriener two hours later.
Concordia Texas (3-4) has lost four of its last five outings, including its two straight. The Tornados posted a 1-3 record at last weekend's 18th Annual Austin College Classic in Sherman, Texas. The club's lone victory came in five frames against Dallas last Friday.
Alissa Johnson leads CTX with 2.22 kills and 2.52 digs per set, while
Emma Clifford is hitting a team-best .295.
The Lady Bulldogs (5-2) have won five of their last six matches, but were swept by 10th-ranked Cal Lutheran last Saturday. Earlier in the day, Texas Lutheran knocked off No. 18 Chapman in five panels.
The Lady Bulldogs are averaging 11.75 kills per frame and Vanecia Spencer leads the way (3.04/set). Megan Lee also leads the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with 5.78 digs per panel.
The Mountaineers (1-5) swept Sul Ross State in their last outing on Wednesday in Kerrville, which snapped a season-opening five-match losing streak.
Schreiner, which was swept in its first four contests of the year, boasts three attackers above two kills per set, including Callie Du Perier who is netting 2.37 winners per frame. The Mountaineers also average 18.11 digs per panel.
Concordia and Texas Lutheran will be meeting for the 67th time on Saturday night, and second this season. The Lady Bulldogs own a commanding 59-7 edge in the all-time series, but the Tornados recorded a four-set victory on Aug. 30, which snapped a 45-match losing streak to TLU.
Saturday's nightcap marks the 32nd all-time meeting between Concordia and Schriener. The Tornados own a slim 16-15 advantage in the series, which dates back to 1999. The Mountaineers swept the season series a year ago, including a five-set victory over CTX on Oct. 18 in the Capital City.
