SEGUIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team lost a pair of four-set matches on Saturday at Susan Duke Court. The Tornados fell to host Texas Lutheran (20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25) before dropping the nightcap to Schreiner (26-24, 14-25, 24-26, 22-25).
Emma Clifford led Concordia Texas (3-6) with 19 kills (2.38 per set) in the two contests, while Liz Olson collected 26 digs and Alison Pringle racked up 11 block assists.
The Tornados concluded their season-opening nine-match road trip and will return to Austin to open American Southwest Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Concordia Fieldhouse. CTX will host Sul Ross State and Mary Hardin-Baylor in the league tri-match.
MATCH ONE
Texas Lutheran (6-3) built a two-set advantage and split the last two frames to even the season series with Concordia.
The Tornados, who limited the Lady Bulldogs to a .081 hitting percentage, managed a 25-22 victory in the third set to extend the contest, but Texas Lutheran closed out the match following the fourth panel.
Brooke Stitt paced Concordia's attack with a match-high 13 kills, while Zoë Allen turned in a double-double performance of 16 digs and 12 assists. Olson also matched Allen's dig total.
The Lady Bulldogs received 12 winners from Brette Threadgill and a match-high 23 digs from Megan Lee.
MATCH TWO
Concordia won the opening set, but Schreiner (2-6) rallied to claim the final three and hand the Tornados their fourth consecutive loss.
Callie Du Perier posted 15 kills, including seven in the second frame, to lead the Mountaineers. Jaemi Groves also posted a double-double with 35 assists and 13 digs.
Clifford and
Katie Baker each netted double-digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.
