SHERMAN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the 18th Annual Austin College Classic on Saturday. The Tornados were defeated by Bacone in five sets and swept by host Austin College in the finale.
Concordia Texas (3-4) will return to action when it travels to Texas Lutheran for a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Tornados will take on the Bulldogs and Schreiner in back-to-back contests at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
MATCH ONE
Concordia won the first two sets, but Bacone (3-4) rallied to win the final three and clinch the match.
The Tornados struggled on the attack, hitting only .063 while committing 22 attack errors.
Meanwhile, Zoë Allen handed out 12 assists to pace CTX.
Stacy Manship led the defensive effort with a dozen digs.
MATCH TWO
The Kangaroos (6-4) rolled to a sweep and handed Concordia its fourth loss in its last five outings.
Austin College hit .276 and was led by Shelby Eaves' 16 winners.
Sam Ladewig dished out 20 assists for the Tornados, who posted a .125 hitting percentage.
The Kangaroos led wire-to-wire in the opening frame and close out the nine-point win on three consecutive kills by Madison Lee.
Concordia won the first point of the second panel, but did not lead the rest of the set. Austin College held a 6-4 advantage before using an 8-1 run to take a nine-point lead. The Kangaros never looked back and finished off the frame by winning 11 of the next 23 tallies.
The Tornados attempted to extend the match past the third set. However, a late surge by Austin College ended the contest.
A kill by
Emma Clifford tied the panel at 20-all, but the Kangaroos picked up the next five points, including three on winners by Bekah Newberry to complete the sweep.
