SEGUIN, Texas – Behind a strong second-half effort, Texas Lutheran overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to top the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team, 67-59, Tuesday evening at Memorial Gymnasium.
The Tornados (0-1) used a 10-2 run to close out the first half and claim the seven-point lead. However, in the second half, Concordia Texas shot only 22.5 percent (9-of-40), as the Bulldogs (1-1) overcame the deficit and earned the non-conference victory. Overall, CTX was limited to 26.4 percent from the field.
Karisa Cantu led Texas Lutheran with a game-high 18 points, while Taylor Dydalewicz and Kristen Lye each registered double-doubles. Dydalewicz posted 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Lye recorded 10 points and a game-high 13 boards.
Celeste Laredo paced the Tornados with 11 points off the bench.
Ally Terry grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, including nine in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
CTX and TLU were tied at 45-45 with 11:24 remaining in the second half, but the Bulldogs reeled off a 12-2 run over the following two minutes that gave the hosts a 10-point advantage.
The Tornados were able to get as close as 61-58 following a free throw by Laredo with 2:41 to play, but Texas Lutheran answered again with a 6-1 spurt to close out the game.
Concordia will return to action on Thursday night, as the team travels to Edinburg to play Texas-Pan American in an exhibition game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
