Tornados open conference play with sweep on Saturday

ALPINE, Texas –
The Concordia University Texas volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Gallego Center. The Tornados started the day with a sweep (25-20, 25-19, 26-24) of Sul Ross State to open American Southwest Conference (ASC) play. Concordia Texas then dropped a four-set decision to McMurry by scores of 25-14, 22-25, 15-25, 20-25.

The Tornados (5-4, 1-0 ASC) ran their winning streak to four games with the sweep of the Lobos (4-7, 0-2 ASC).

Katie Baker led the offensive charge with 10 kills, while Zoe Allen handed out 29 assists and tallied a pair of service aces.

In the nightcap, the War Hawks (6-4) dropped the opening frame, but rallied to win the next three to snap Concordia's winning streak.

Allen, Baker and Carly Custer all racked up double-doubles in the loss. Allen registered 26 assists and 11 digs, while Baker posted 10 winners and 10 stops. Custer led CTX with 11 kills and collected 12 digs. Cassie Dominguez chipped in with 21 digs.

The Tornados will return home to host Howard Payne on Tuesday night. The conference tilt is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse, and the action will be carried on the CTX Athletics Digital Network.
