Tornados drop Texas-Dallas on Thursday night, 83-76

AUSTIN, Texas – Four Concordia University Texas men's basketball players reached double digits, and the Tornados held off Texas-Dallas, 83-76, on Thursday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Concordia Texas (9-5, 5-4 ASC), which won its sixth consecutive contest, led for more than 36 minutes in the game. The Tornados also forced 21 turnovers and turned them into 29 points.

Andre Potts led CTX with 18 points, while Josh Sanchez netted 17 in only 17 minutes of action. Ben Page and Jared Galvan each chipped in with 11 points.

Rafael Farley paced the Comets (10-4, 5-4 ASC) with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Reagan Keogh also grabbed a game-high 11 boards.

Concordia led 52-43 at halftime. The Tornados then pushed their advantage to 56-45 after Terry Corprew hit a jumper with 17:42 to play.

Texas-Dallas used an 18-8 run over the next 10 minutes to grab a 61-60 lead.

The Comets pushed their advantage to three points on a pair of Matthew Medell free throws. CTX answered with Donovan Ford's 3-pointer on the ensuing possession to pull even at 65-all. Farley then responded with a 3-pointer of his own to put Texas-Dallas back in front.

Concordia managed an 8-0 run that gave the hosts a 73-68 lead with 4:03 remaining. The Comets pulled back within 76-74 on Medell's layup. Galvan converted a traditional three-point play after being fouled on a layup to give CTX a 79-74 lead. Potts then put the game out of reach with a jumper to stretch the advantage to 81-74 with 28 seconds left. Corprew added two free throws and Farley capped the scoring with a layup to allow the Tornados to win by seven points.

Concordia will return to action on Saturday, when it hosts league-leading Hardin-Simmons. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
