BOX SCORE SEGUIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas volleyball team fell 3-2 in a dramatic five-set match vs. Schreiner Friday afternoon. It was the third time the two teams squared off this season and the first time the Tornados fell short in the maximum amount of games.
In a match that saw 37 ties and 20 lead changes, 12 stalemates and eight shifts occured in the deciding fifth set. it was the Mountaineers who fought off five match points in the final stanza to win it 20-18 and tip the contest in their favor.
The Tornados took the first two frame 25-21, 25-23. Then, Schreiner came back for a 25-23 victory in set three. The momentum carried in Schreiner's favor into the fouth game, where they took it 25-18, setting up the deciding game.
Katie Baker and
Carly Custer each recorded double-doubles. Baker had 14 kills and 25 digs while Custer added 11 kills and 14 digs.
Jordan Redmond had a team-high 16 kills to pace the attack.
Lexi Perez had a match-best 36 digs.
Concordia looks to avenge an early season loss to Texas Lutheran. The match begins at 6 p.m.
As flooding heavy rains and the threat of more flooding continue to threaten Central Texas, Texas Lutheran University officials elected to cancel tomorrow's contests, including the Tornados' date with Our Lady of the Lake.
