Concordia Volleyball Triumphs Over UT Tyler In Five Sets

BOX SCORE  RICHARDSON, Texas -- Concordia Texas volleyball needed five sets to emerge victorious over UT Tyler Thursday afternoon in the first game of the American Southwest Conference Volleyball Tournament, hosted by UT Dallas.

Starting on a 5-0 run, the Tornados controlled the fifth set wire-to-wire to take the finale 15-10. It was the only game that did not feature any ties or lead changes.

Skye Truss led Concordia with 16 kills, establishing both a season and career-best. Katie Baker recorded yet another double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs. Lexi Perez paced the defensive effort with 23 digs. Rebecca Horton also had a season-high 12 kills.

The Tornados and Patriots knotted five times and traded the lead once in the opening set, but UT Tyler would take the opener 25-22.

Concordia bounced back to take the next two sets, both by a 25-21 tally.

The Patriots and Tornados traded blows early on in the fourth set. UT Tyler was able to force the fifth after gaining control in the early going.

Concordia moved on to play UT Dallas in the double-elimination tournament.
