BOX SCORE JACKSON, Miss. -- Isis Johnson tallied 12 points and established a new career high in pulling down 16 rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team triumphed over Belhaven 57-41 on the road.

Jaela Dejean had a game-high 13 points and was the only other Tornado to finish in double figures in the low-scoring affair.

It was the Blazers (0-4) who drew first blood at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter. After that, the Tornados closed the opening period on a 9-1 rally and never looked back.

Concordia (5-1) used a 19-2 run over the course of the second and third quarters to put the game away after both teams got off to a slow start. As the second 10 minutes unfolded, the Blazers (0-4) outscored the Tornados by an 11-6 margin to claw back into the ballgame, then, thanks to some shut-down defense, CTX held Belhaven to just two free throws over the remaining 5:28 of the half to go into the break with a 28-14 advantage. The momentum shift stayed in the Tornados' favor out of the break as Concordia scored the first six points of the second half to get out to a 34-14 lead.

The Tornados return home Tuesday for a rematch with Texas Lutheran. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at the Concordia Fieldhouse. The CTX Student-Athlete Athletic Committee is continuing its canned food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
