TYLER, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team suffered a 59-47 loss at the hands of Texas-Dallas Thursday in the American Southwest Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at the Herrington Patriot Center.
The Tornados end their season with a 9-16 overall record.
Meanwhile, the Comets (22-4) move on to the semifinals on Friday.
Nadine Fadelle paced Concordia Texas with 18 points, three assists and two steals.
Kia Love added eight points and
Da'Quayla Terry scored seven.
The Tornados shot 40.9 percent (18-for-44) from the floor and committed 26 turnovers in the loss.
Concordia and Texas-Dallas remained close in the opening half. The two teams found themselves even three times in the first 20 minutes. The Comets were able to grab a 26-22 edge at halftime.
Texas-Dallas then pushed ahead to take a 34-24 lead in the first seven minutes of the second half. The Tornados cut the advantage to nine after
Emily Cullers found her way into the paint for a layup. The Comets then used a 6-2 spurt to take a 43-30 lead with 10:55 to play in the contest.
Texas-Dallas kept its double-digit lead until Love hit a layup with 6:19 left to cut the advantage to 47-38. However, the Comets responded with four straight points to push the lead back to double figures. UTD increased its advantage to 55-40 with 1:56 to play. Concordia was able to get as close as 10 in the final minute, but the Comets finished the contest with a pair of free throws to earn the 12-point victory.
