ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of St. Olaf in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Old Settlers Park. The Oles won the opening game 3-1 and claimed the nightcap 5-0.
St. Olaf (3-11) relied on a pair of strong pitching performances during the day. Danielle Collins and Alex Lopez combined to limit the Tornados (7-18) to one run on the day.
Morgan Loredo paced Concordia Texas at the plate, as the freshman infielder logged three hits and she drove in a run.
In the first contest, the Oles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jessica Bentley doubled to left field, allowing Lopez to score from second base.
St. Olaf added an unearned run in the fourth, as the Tornados committed a pair of errors, including one which allowed a runner to cross home plate.
Concordia scored its lone tally in the bottom of the sixth, as Loredo produced a run-scoring single to right center, which allowed
Alyssa Autrey to trot home from third base.
The Oles added a mark in the seventh on Lopez's RBI single through the right side.
Shelby Burrus (1-4) was handed the loss after working the complete game. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out four.
Both teams went five scoreless innings in the finale before St. Olaf cracked the scoring seal in the sixth.
The Oles took a 1-0 advantage on Jenna Boudreau's sacrifice fly. An inning later, St. Olaf sent eight batters to the plate and scored four times to increase its lead to 5-0.
The Tornados were limited to three hits in the nightcap and were unable to score.
Amanda Allard (2-3) went the distance but gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits.
Concordia will return to American Southwest Conference play on Thursday at No. 3 East Texas Baptist.
