Tornados drop season finale at LeTourneau, 3-2

LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau used a walk-off double by Kelsie Benson to defeat the Concordia University Texas softball team 3-2 in the finale of the American Southwest Conference series.

The YellowJackets (17-20, 12-17 ASC) clinched the final spot in the ASC Tournament with the victory.

Jessica Borrego, Sydney Coffey and Noey Ruiz all tallied two hits apiece to pace the Tornados (8-29, 8-21 ASC), while both Borrego and Ruiz drove in a run.

LeTourneau jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. However, Concordia Texas answered in the fifth, as Borrego hit a run-scoring single to left field.

A frame later, Ruiz put the Tornados up 2-1 with an RBI single to left.

However, the YellowJackets pulled even in the bottom of the panel on Taylor Kaderli's RBI double.

Coffey reached on a two-out single in the seventh, but CTX was unable to bring her around.

LeTourneau then started the decisive stanza as Courtney Matulis reached on an error. After a sacrifice bunt moved Matulis to second, Benson stepped up and drove the ball to the right-center field gap, which brought in the winning run.

Amanda Allard (3-4) received the loss after allowing an unearned run and one hit in an inning of relief.

The Tornados' season comes to an end, as the squad finishes eighth overall in the league standings.
