BOX SCORE 2 SEGUIN, Texas – The Concordia Univeristy Texas volleyball team split a pair of 3-0 decisions Friday afternoon at Susan Duke Court on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.
The Tornados opened the day with a 3-0 loss against Birmingham Southern then wrapped it up with a 3-0 win over Sul Ross State.
Kelly Farina led the Tornados with 15 total kills on the day and 14 total digs.
MATCH ONE – BSC d. CTX 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 26-24)
Kelly Farina's nine kills weren't enough to put Concordia past Birmingham Southern in Friday's opener. The Panthers set the tone of the match with a dominant first set at 25-14.
Down but not out, the Tornados drew the second set within two at 19-17, but BSC closed the frame on a 6-2 run.
Concordia tried to force a fourth set and in fact had set point at 24-20, but the Panthers rallied for a 6-0 spurt to close the set.
Lexi Perez paced the defense with a match-best 20 digs.
MATCH TWO – CTX d. SRSU 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-12)
Brooke Camet had seven kills while Kelly Farina and Marissa Stinson added six each in the Tornados' 3-0 sweep of Sul Ross State to conclude action Friday.
As a team, the Tornados hit at a .253 clip, making just 12 attacking errors total.
CTX and SRSU fought toe-to-toe nearly the entire opening set. At 22-21, the Tornados took off for a 3-1 set-finishing rally.
The momentum stayed in Concordia's favor as the Tornados cruised to 25-17 and 25-12 victories in the final two frames.
CTX concludes the 2016 season tomorrow against Texas Lutheran.
