BOX SCORE BROWNWOOD, Texas – Despite double-doubles from Kelly Farina and Nacole Miller, the Concordia Texas volleyball team came up on the short end of a 3-2 decision at Howard Payne Friday evening.
Farina tallied 14 kills and 23 digs while Miller added 36 assists and 11 digs. Carly Custer had a team-best 16 kills.
Concordia found itself trailing 20-17 in the first but earned the opening-set victory after going on a 8-3 tear. The momentum carried the Tornados through to the second frame, which CTX controlled for a 25-18 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Yellow Jackets came out firing in the third, controlling it nearly wire-to-wire and notching a 25-16 win.
The fourth set featured a lot of high drama, as Concordia overcame a 22-17 deficit with a 7-2 burst. Unfortunately, HPU grabbed the final two points to tie the match at two sets apiece.
The Lady Jackets won the decider 15-11.
The Tornados return to action next Friday at UT Dallas for the second ASC Crossover tournament. They'll take on the host Comets at 5 p.m.
