BOX SCORE

ABILENE, Texas – Despite the fact the Tornado volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at Hardin-Simmons Tuesday night, the contest was a lot closer than the aggregate sets indicated.

Concordia (4-5, 0-2 ASC) battled wire-to-wire in every set but just could not surpass the Cowgirls (4-5, 0-1).

Brooke Camet shared a team-high eight kills with Kelly Farina, but Camet hit at a match-best .583 clip. Reigning ASC defensive player of the week Lexi Perez added a CTX-high 18 digs.

The first set was a see-saw battle that went to HSU 25-23 after the Cowgirls staged a 3-1 rally to close out the frame after a tie at 22-all.

The middle frame saw the 11 ties and seven lead changes. The Tornados found themselves trailing 21-19 and rallied back to knot the score at 22, but HSU closed out the stanza on 3-0 run.

The Cowgirls started the final set on a 6-1 spurt, from which CTX never fully recovered. While the Tornados got within three at 10-7, HSU seemed to take control and had a 20-14 lead. Concordia found some new life and started to chip away at the deficit. CTX got as close as 23-20, but the Cowgirls completed the sweep, 25-21.

The Tornados return home for an eight-match homestand starting Friday against Sul Ross State. First serve is at 6 p.m.
