AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep of Huston-Tillotson to move into a tie for the second most wins in school history on Tuesday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Marissa Stinson recorded a team-high 12 kills in the win to help CTX move to 16-10 on the season, equaling the win total of the 2000 season when the Tornados finished 16-14.
Stinson, a sophomore out of Pearland, Texas, hit .333 in the match while also recording four digs and two blocks. She recorded double digit kills in back-to-back games for the fourth time this season.
CTX trailed 15-9 in the first set, but was able to rattle off six straight points to tie the game at 15. The Tornados closed on a 5-1 run to take a 25-21 set win.
In the second set, CTX managed to stave off four set point opportunities to take a thrilling 29-27 win and move ahead 2-0.
The Tornados used the momentum of the second set to 12-5 early in the third set. CTX was able to keep the Lady Rams at arms length the rest of the way and pick up a 25-19 set win.
Setter Georgia Quiroz was fantastic in the match, recording 35 assists, 10 digs, two kills and two blocks. Quiroz, a freshman out of Georgetown, Texas, has now recorded at least 30 assists in three straight games.
This season, the Tornados have recorded 11 straight set wins, which is the most since 1999 and the second most in school history.
The school record for wins in a season is 23 set in 1999. The Tornados will look to inch closer to that record in postseason play as they take on East Texas Baptist in game one of the ASC Tournament Thursday at 2:30 on the campus of UT Dallas.
