AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team returns to the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the first time since 2015 when they will face East Texas Baptist at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Tornados will enter the tournament as the two seed out of the West Division after a 16-12, 10-6 ASC record. It is the program's most wins since 2000, when the team went 16-14. It is also the team's most conference wins since 2007.
CTX will take on the Tigers, who are the three seed from the East Division. In their lone matchup in the regular season on Sept. 22, the Tornados defeated ETBU in straight sets as
Carly Custer and
Marissa Stinson both finished with 12 kills, while
Georgia Quiroz had 36 assists. Head coach
Nicole McCoy believes her team is ready for the postseason.
I am expecting to go in and compete," McCoy said. "We have a really good chance with the matchups coming up to make it to Saturday which is our team goal."
CTX will feature four ASC All-West selections as
Marissa Stinson,
Carly Custer,
Kelly Farina and
Marjani Myles were recognized by the conference on Wednesday. Stinson, who led the team in kills and blocks, was named to the ASC All-Conference team while also receiving West Division First-Team accolades.
Farina and Custer, meanwhile, earned West Division Second-Team honors.
Marjani Myles, after a stellar freshman year, took home West Division Honorable Mention accolades.
The Tornados will play inside UTD Activity Center as UT Dallas is hosting the ASC Tournament.
